What Casström Knife Should You Take on Your Next Trip?

There is no single knife that is perfect for all adventures.

Which knife is best depends on where you are going, what you plan to do, and how much weight you want to carry. Whether you need a lightweight hiking knife, a reliable bushcraft knife, or a hunting knife, it's smart to choose the knife according to the task.

Hiking and backpacking

If you're going on a long hike, every gram counts. Our EDC folding knife is an excellent choice. It weighs only 72 g and is perfect for cooking, cutting rope, opening food packages, and other common camp chores. For many hikers, a good folding knife is all that's needed – easy to carry but always at hand.

Camping, canoeing and overlanding

When weight is not as important, a fixed-blade knife truly comes into its own. If you are canoeing, travelling by 4x4, or have a base camp, Lars Fält, The Woodsman, No.10 Swedish Forest Knife and No.14 Swedish Forest Knife are excellent companions. The longer blades make it easier to prepare kindling, carve "feathersticks," and handle heavier tasks around the camp.

If you spend a lot of time in wet environments, the No.8 Swedish Forest Knife in stainless steel is a very good option. The stainless steel is particularly suitable for canoeing and other trips near water.

For bushcraft and survival training, a fixed-blade knife is the obvious choice. It is strong, reliable, and provides good control when carving, making fire, building in camp, or working with wood. If you're spending the weekend developing your outdoor skills, a fixed-blade knife is hard to beat.

Hunting

For hunting, we recommend our knives with a flat grind. They provide very good cutting ability and are excellent for gutting and butchering game. Safari, No.8 Swedish Forest Knife and No.10 Swedish Forest Knife are excellent hunting companions, while the Swedish Field Dresser is a specialized tool that makes it easier to open game quickly, safely, and gently.

The best outdoor knife is the one that suits your specific trip. A lightweight folding knife is an excellent choice for hiking and backpacking, while a robust fixed-blade knife is hard to beat for bushcraft, camping, and hunting. By choosing the knife according to the adventure, you get a tool that does the job – without carrying more than you need.
